  • The classroom is divided into interest areas organized around specific kinds of play, for example, block area, house area, science area, small toy area, book area, and art area.
  • The names of the interest areas should have names that children can understand.
  • Materials are labeled with tracings, pictures, photographs, actual objects or words.
  • Most of the materials in the classroom are to be open ended.
  • Children’s artwork, photos of children at work, and writing samples are displayed on the walls.
